To put it bluntly, Straws Suck

That's enough to wrap around the earth 2.5 times every day.

Enough to fill 127 school buses every day.

And that's just in the United States.

*It should be noted that these numbers do not include straws from juice boxes or the type pre-attached to other beverage containers...

To quickly sum up how this poses problem, I refer you to an article in yesterday's New York Times:

Spoiler: "study published Wednesday in the journal PLOS One estimated that 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic, large and small, weighing 269,000 tons, could be found throughout the world’s oceans, even in the most remote reaches."

No surprise then that 500 million daily disposable plastic straws in the United States are contributing to this problem.
